North Carolina’s Unfinished Transformation

North Carolina’s Unfinished Transformation: Connecting Working Families to the State’s Newfound Prosperity looks at the state’s transformation over the past 50 years from a state burdened by poverty and segregation, overwhelmingly dependent on agriculture and low-wage manufacturing to one of America’s most metropolitan, economically competitive and fastest-growing regions. Many low-income families are ill-equipped to participate in this newfound prosperity, which puts the state’s future growth at risk. This report prepared by the NC Budget & Tax Center provides an assessment of North Carolina’s workforce development system and recommendations for how that system could better serve low-income working families.
