Decker Pleads Guilty To Conspiracy

RALEIGH, N.C. — Former lawmaker Michael Decker pleaded guilty Tuesday to mail fraud, money laundering and conspiracy in a case involving charges of corruption.Also Tuesday, for the first time in federal court, State House Speaker Jim Black was implicated in the case.Decker, who was a lawmaker from Forsyth County, pleaded guilty and is essentially saying that he agreed to receive $50,000 in exchange for his political loyalty.Decker switched parties in 2003, becoming a Democrat after being a staunch Republican. The switch allowed Black, also a Democrat, to maintain his control of the House. (more…)
