 A pharmacist who’s tired and hungry might make a mistake that could kill you. But tired and hungry pharmacists have been a possibility in North Carolina since at least 1998, when politically appointed non-pharmacists blocked the N.C. Board of Pharmacy from setting work rules aimed at protecting the public.

Now the N.C. Supreme Court has kicked away the roadblock. It said the board has the authority to prevent drugstores from making pharmacists work more than 12 straight hours, and to require meal breaks and rest breaks for those who work at least six hours (more…)
