N.C. probes why legislator didn’t report more than $100,000 in campaign contributions

RALEIGH –

State officials are investigating the failure of N.C. Rep. Thomas Wright, a top lieutenant to former House Speaker Jim Black, to report more than $100,000 worth of campaign contributions since 1992.

A similar inquiry was conducted last year regarding another Black ally, former Rep. Michael Decker, who pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

The State Board of Elections, which is handling the criminal investigation of Wright, is expected to convene public hearings on his case within the month, according to sources familiar with the investigation. (more…)
