It looks like all the negative publicity about the House Republicans secret caucus meetings with lobbyists hasn’t changed anything.
According to an email from House Speaker Thom Tillis’ office Thursday, Andrew Henson with the right-wing Civitas Institute will be “presenting an update on Smart Start” Tuesday afternoon in room 1425 right after the House session adjourns.
The meeting is not listed on the House calendar, the general legislative calendar, or any other schedule. It is hard for a meeting to be public if the public doesn’t know about it.
As of this afternoon, no one from Smart Start has been asked to appear to respond to Henson, who has written two almost indecipherable diatribes about the program.
Both Civitas and the John Locke Foundation have made no secret of their wish to see Smart Start abolished.
The Republicans apparently are not interested in hearing another view and don’t seem to be too keen on the public hearing Henson make his absurd case either.
At least there were two sides presented at the closed door meetings about video poker. Now it looks like only the ideological right is invited to appear at the shadow committee hearings.
