Continuing resolution, Dem presser, loan company bill on tap today

- in Legislative Watch

After yesterday’s maddening budget exercise in the Senate, the big action on Jones Street shifts to the House of Representatives today.

At noon, the House Banking Committee will again take up House Bill 810 — the conservatives’ gift to the high cost loan industry. Last week, members of the committee couldn’t muster the courage to do the industry’s bidding with the base commander from Fort Bragg there to voice his opposition. The industry will try again today.

Also at noon, House Democrats will hold a press conference to register their opposition to the Senate’s rather stunning proposal to decapiate Smart Start.

Then, in a fun conclusion to the legislative week, the full House will take up the latest shameful plan by the House leadership to link extension of benefits for up to 46,000 unemployment insurance benefits hostages to a continuing resolution that would keep government running if a budget isn’t in place by June 30.
