The Class of 2013 – Rep. Robert Brawley

Name:  State Rep. C. Robert Brawley [1], Republican

Occupation: insurance agent, now does work for Allstate Insurance

Lives in: Mooreseville

From: Mooresville

Family: wife Mary; five grown children; 12 grandchildren

Hobbies:  “Arguing. I do enjoy a keen, intellectual exchange of ideas.”  Also takes a 2 to 3 mile walk every day, whether in Raleigh or home in Mooreseville.

Previous elected offices, if any: Served in the state legislature from 1981 to 1998 before returning this year after a 15-year hiatus.

Why’d you run for office?  Concerned that government imposes itself too much in citizen’s lives. “This president we’ve got believes in socialism. I don’t believe in socialism.”

What are the major challenges this year? “The fact that I’m me. From the perspective of getting things done, I’ve got to learn who can get things done and who likes to do things and who just likes politics. What’s major? It depends on whose bull is getting gored.”

What is one specific thing you’d like to accomplish this session? “To be the best legislator I know how. Working for solutions rather than domination.”

How do you feel about these issues?

What historical or other figures have influenced your politics?

The late U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms and President Ronald Reagan.

What’s something about you most people don’t know:

“I have no idea. I talk too much. I don’t know that I’ve ever tried to hide anything.”
