Democracy NC’s Bob Hall on their latest report on campaign disclosure and the Speaker of the NC House

A new report from Democracy NC finds problems with the campaign finance reports of House    Speaker Thom Tillis and raises the specter of play to pay politics, a practice Republicans promised to end when they took over the General Assembly. “The mistakes in disclosure and pattern of muscling through legislation for a major money supplier are sadly similar to the pay-to-play tactics of the last House Speaker from Mecklenburg County,” said Bob Hall, executive director of Democracy North Carolina.

Amy Barkley with the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids discusses new poll numbers, the HWTF, and efforts to curb youth smoking

Last Thursday, the US Surgeon General released a major report on the best practices for keeping young people from starting to smoke. The report comes on the heels of a recent statewide poll that found three out of four North Carolina voters believe that the state should continue to dedicate some of the money it receives from the tobacco settlement to fund tobacco prevention and control programs. Amy Barkley with the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids joins us to talk about that poll and the future of the state’s Health and Wellness Trust Fund.
