Easley earns points by putting opponent atop lottery board

We remain unsold on the the prospects of the North Carolina lottery digging our state out of a financial hole and building up our schools through voluntary participation (usually by those who can least afford it) in a state-sponsored numbers game. Until we see the success, we’ll reserve judgment.
But we do like one move Gov. Mike Easley has made on the lottery front.
Easley has tabbed a lottery opponent as the first man to run the game’s management board.
Charles Sanders - former chairman of Glaxo Inc. and an unsuccessful candidate for U.S. Senate in 1996, among other credentials - will be the chairman of the North Carolina State Lottery Commission. Previously Sanders was a member of the steering committee for Citizens United Against the Lottery, and made financial contributions to the anti-lottery cause. (more…)
