If the repercussions were not so serious, it would be funny.
An election system study commission headed by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker III has recommended changes that would cost an estimated $1.35 billion.
The commission came up with 87 recommendations for ways to improve the integrity of the voting system throughout the United States.
The commission was asked to study the problem and to come up with ideas for solutions. The commission was not asked to find money to pay for the changes.
No question about it, change is needed. Apparently agreement comes from Congress and the North Carolina General Assembly. The turmoil arising from the 2000 presidential election is now history. The headache developed in Florida and quickly generated an epidemic that lasted until the Supreme Court took an aspirin. (more…)
