Support key to overcome addiction

"You are not alone." So declare the posters from the walls of the Rockingham County Mental Health Center - and the substance abuse counselors of the department echo the sentiment.
Adult substance abuse counselor Lynda Cook says support from friends, family and those going through the same thing are keys to overcoming the disease.
"Alcoholism and drug addictions are permanent diseases with no cure. The only way to beat it is to stay abstinent," said Cook.
Some patients come in of their own will, some are court-mandated, some just want to get their driver’s licenses back, but they should all be thankful for a mental health system that has kept its identity throughout statewide consolidations and reforms of other mental health programs. (more…)
