Congressional representatives oppose military school transfers

Associated Press RALEIGH, N.C. - Six members of the North Carolina congressional delegation and a federal government workers’ association are opposing a proposal to transfer base schools at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune to county public school systems.
The congressional opponents, in a letter to the Pentagon, said transferring the military base schools to county school systems would undermine military families’ ability to "participate in the governance" of the schools.
The letter also said it was doubtful that the change would result in savings and would affect morale of military personnel.
Republican Sens. Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr signed the letter, along with GOP Reps. Walter Jones and Robin Hayes and Democrats Bob Etheridge and Mike McIntyre. (more…)
