Toll roads would offer more options

With the legislature’s recent focus on the lottery and (lack of) school funding, one interesting item that hasn’t received much press lately is state toll roads.
It’s an issue that is actively being pursued by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority through the following four projects:
* Gaston East-West Connector
* Monroe Connector
* Triangle Parkway
* Cape Fear Skyway
We don’t like the idea of motorists having to pay twice to use certain roads. We’re already paying through vehicle and fuel taxes. Then, we’d pay again through a toll.
And on the surface, it’s unfair that some motorists will be excluded from using toll roads, because they quite simply can’t afford it. (more…)
