NAACP leader: ‘Time to wake up’

DURHAM — Durham residents need to stand up for what’s right in the community, the state and the nation, even if it seems that everyone is standing against them, according to the newly elected President of the North Carolina Conference of the NAACP.
"It’s time to wake up, it’s time to stand up, it’s time to hold people accountable," the Rev. Dr. William Barber II told those gathered at the election-year mass rally of the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People on Sunday evening.
About 85 people congregated at the Community Baptist Church to hear Barber’s impassioned message on civil rights and social advancement. (more…)
