By GORDON ANDERSON SANFORD - State Rep. John Sauls (R-Lee) has announced that he will not seek a third term in the North Carolina General Assembly.
Sauls, 55, cited making a choice between his political career and his duties as pastor at Crossroads Church in Broadway.
“The General Assembly is no longer a citizens’ legislature,” Sauls said. “It’s a full-time job. I’m also the senior pastor at Crossroads Church. With Crossroads preparing for another expansion, Sauls said he felt like this was the time to come home.
Sauls said the decision wasn’t easy. He was enjoying favor in Raleigh - despite Democratic control of the House, he said he’d been “blessed” there.
“I was very blessed in Raleigh to go immediately into leadership roles,” he said, pointing out that he chaired the House Community College Committee, was vice-chairman of the House Education Committee, the House Public Utilities Committee and was on the House Rules Committee. (more…)
