Dole Angling for Political Leadership Post

Sen. Elizabeth Dole is considering running for the chairmanship of the National Republican Senatorial Committee - a move that would elevate her national profile and give her oversight of the campaigns of Republicans running for Senate across the country.
"Members have approached her. It is certainly something she would consider," said Brian Nick, Dole’s communication’s director.
"If she deems that she could do a good job and still give her full attention to North Carolina, she will do it. But if she deems it would be tough to tend to North Carolina concerns, she won’t do it. It’s that simple," he said.
The current chairman of the Republican Senatorial Committee is Sen. George Allen of Virginia, who earlier this year had strong praise for Dole.
"She has always been very helpful to the Republican Senate Committee," said Allen in April in an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal. "I can’t imagine any race or campaign that would not want her to campaign for them." (more…)
