Judge rejects voting machine company’s suit

RALEIGH — A judge refused Monday to set aside a key part of a new North Carolina law meant to protect voters from machine failures such as one in Carteret County that threw the state agriculture commissioner race into doubt for months.
Wake County Superior Court Judge Narley Cashwell threw out a lawsuit brought by Diebold Election Systems, a major computerized voting machine supplier, against the State Board of Elections.
The Ohio-based company is one of five that initially submitted bids to the state to supply computerized voting equipment to local elections boards.
State officials are reviewing those bids and will create a pool of vendors qualified to provide machines. (more…)
