RALEIGH - A company that’s under scrutiny for ties to N.C. politicians who helped approve the new state lottery says it will bid for both major contracts to run the game.
Georgia-based Scientific Games says it will submit bids to provide scratch-off tickets for the lottery and provide the electronic equipment that would allow purchasers to play games such as Powerball, state lottery commissioners announced at a Wednesday meeting.
The company submitted a letter of intent to bid before a Tuesday deadline.
State prosecutors are examining whether Meredith Norris, whom Scientific Games paid to track the lottery legislation, violated lobbying laws.

The company’s major rival, GTECH of Rhode Island, submitted a letter saying it will compete for the electronic equipment contract, but does not plan to bid for the scratch-off contract. (more…)
