Real problem, ugly response

A movement claiming to have America’s best interest at heart has a mighty un-American feel to it. Has anti-immigration sentiment become so strong that Americans are willing to change the Constitution?
If so, it’s a dangerous path we’re traveling. The proposal that’s gaining steam would deny citizenship to U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants – the same citizenship that’s now granted by the 14th Amendment to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States.”
It didn’t get to a vote in the House this month, and it’s doubtful such a measure would survive a challenge on constitutional grounds. Nevertheless, supporters are likely to renew efforts to push it through. (more…)
