Lottery making its mark in North Carolina

Area retailers not shy about letting customers know the tickets are near
Anyone driving down Neuse Boulevard this past week may have noticed something out of the ordinary. A white banner flying outside U Pick Food Mart proclaimed the pending availability of the Carolina Cash scratch-off game.
A stone’s throw away, a white van has been transformed into a mobile billboard for Glenburnie Coins & Pawn. “Lottery Tickets Coming Soon,” a sign on the roof declares.
The North Carolina Education Lottery kicks off at 6 a.m. today, and retailers are not shy about letting customers and prospective customers know it.
According to NCEL regulations, retailers can advertise that they will be selling lottery tickets as soon as they have a training certificate, their terminal is installed and their satellite dish is in place. They are then free to make their own signs, though permission is needed to use the official lottery logo. (more…)
