Crucial Conversations Luncheon: Housing NC’s future

Monday, April 10th, 2006

By Chris Fitzsimon

Sponsored by: NC Policy Watch and the “Campaign for Housing Carolina”
Monday, April 10th
Exploris Museum, Raleigh
12 - 1:30 pm (registration at 11:30)

What do business leaders, philanthropists, bankers, housing advocates, social service providers, AARP, NAACP, real estate professionals, disability rights advocates, United Way of NC, and advocates for domestic violence victims have in common? They all support an increased investment by NC in affordable housing and are part of the “Campaign for Housing Carolina.” Come learn about the campaign and how affordable housing is key to North Carolina’s future. Panelists will discuss the housing crisis in North Carolina, what it means for the State’s economic future and look at strategies to bring attention to this issue during the 2006 legislative session. Today in North Carolina 740,000 households do not have and cannot afford a safe, stable home; the average hourly wage needed to afford a two-bedroom apartment at fair market rent is $11.60 — twice as much as minimum wage.

Cost: $10 (includes box lunch)

Panelists:
Hope Connell, Chair of the NC Bankers Association
Chris Estes, Executive Director of NC Housing Coalition
Ron Penney, United Way
