Assembly ends with consumer issues vote

The state General Assembly concluded its 2006 short session with votes on safety and consumer issues plus a vote on establishing an innocence commission to review claims of death row inmates.
This report contains information on bills considered through Wednesday.
Reps. Marian McLawhorn and Edith Warren, D-Pitt, and Rep. Arthur Williams, D-Beaufort, represent Pitt County in the House and Sen. Clark Jenkins, D-Edgecombe, and John Kerr, D-Wayne, are representatives in the Senate.
Here’s how they were recorded on major roll call votes:
House
n Establish N.C. Innocence Inquiry Commission (conference report): Creates the N.C. Innocence Commission to review certain credible claims of factual innocence by verifiable evidence not previously presented at trial or at a hearing granted through post-conviction relief.
Adopted 86-28. Sent to the governor for approval.
Voting yes: McLawhorn, Warren, Williams
n Department of Cultural Resources Employees/Personnel Act (concurrence vote): Relates to the appointment and compensation of the executive director and assistant director of the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission and provides that certain employees of the Department of Cultural Resources are exempt from the classification and compensation rules established by the State Personnel Commission.
