North Carolina Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight and local representatives visited the new H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library and several Henderson neighborhoods Wednesday prior to appearing at a Legislative Wrap-up sponsored by the Henderson-Vance County Chamber of Commerce.
Accompanying Basnight were state Sen. Doug Berger, who arranged the tour, and state Reps. Jim Crawford and Michael Wray.
A group of local officials and citizens welcomed the legislative representatives at the library. Library Director Jeanne Fox directed a tour of the facility.
Basnight said the library sends a powerful message of what a community can do. He indicated that he had not seen anything like it, even on a college campus. He described the library as “incredible” and “magnificent.”
Fox said the library represents a public/private cooperative undertaking, with support coming from local, state and federal governments as well from private grants and contributions. (more…)
