Report: Renters left out in cold

More than half the renters in Pitt County cannot afford to rent a modest, two-bedroom apartment, according to a report by a housing advocacy group.
Pitt County renters earn a median yearly income of $22,327, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s annual Out of Reach report. At that wage — assuming they spend an average of 30 percent of their income on rent — typical tenants could afford to pay $558 per month in rent. But a two-bedroom apartment plus utilities costs $579, the report indicated. (more…)
