Warden: Doctor didn’t monitor consciousness of 2 condemned men

RALEIGH, N.C. | Even though a federal judge believed a physician would monitor inmates’ consciousness during North Carolina’s last two executions, that didn’t happen, the warden of Central Prison has testified in a deposition.
The testimony of warden Marvin Polk isn’t sitting well with a defense attorney for one of the two men who were executed under the order from Senior U.S. District Court Judge Malcolm J. Howard.
"They pulled a fast one on Judge Howard," said Durham lawyer Thomas Loflin, who represented inmate Samuel R. Flippen, who was executed Aug. 18.
Howard did not return a message left Thursday by The News & Observer of Raleigh. (more…)
