Fault lies with me, Decker says

// < ![CDATA[ OAS_AD('Middle'); // ]]> In the end, former Rep. Michael Decker didn’t blame prosecutors, the media, North Carolina’s political system or even former House Speaker Jim Black for the four-year prison sentence a federal judge handed him Friday.
Decker said his case, part of a larger scandal that has rocked the state capital for more than two years, was not emblematic of anything systematically wrong with North Carolina’s government.
"No, it was just my corruption and my corrupt bargain I should never have gotten into," Decker told reporters outside the federal courthouse in Raleigh on Friday afternoon.
Decker, 62 , served for two decades in the state House, representing a district based in Forsyth County that sometimes included parts of Guilford County. Although long-tenured, Decker never emerged as a star player on the legislative stage until after the 2003 elections. (more…)
