Judges oppose bid to split court district

MARSHALL — Two judges who serve in the 24th court district are challenging N.C. Sen. Joe Sam Queen over his recently filed bill to divide the district in two, arguing that there is no rationale for the change.
James. L. Baker Jr., the senior resident superior court judge in the district, stood before the Madison County board of commissioners recently to decry the move, saying that it would “be a useless expenditure of public funds for no public benefit.”
Baker gave the commissioners a copy of a letter he has written to Queen in which he chastises Queen for proposing a bill that affects the court district “without any input from any of the judges nor the district attorney.” (more…)
