Rove, Dole, Emanuel speak in N.C.

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Some political heavy-hitters — including Presidential adviser Karl Rove — were in North Carolina over the weekend to motivate their base and take shots at the opposition.
Speaking to about 300 people at a local annual Republican convention near Asheville, Rove on Saturday blasted Democrats for what he called tax-and-spend policies and their approach to the war in Iraq.
"It’s the defining issue of our generation, whether we like it or not," he said of fighting terrorism and the Iraq war. "Will we stay and prevail or leave and lose?"
The 11th District was represented by Republican Rep. Charles Taylor for eight terms. Democrat Heath Shuler, a former Washington Redskins quarterback, defeated Taylor in November.
During his roughly 45-minute speech, Rove told the crowd at West Henderson High School they can play an important role in helping the GOP rebound from the 2006 election, urging them to bring undecided voters to their side. (more…)
