Budget would end two taxes

// < ![CDATA[ OAS_AD('Middle'); // ]]> RALEIGH — Senate budget writers would cut two controversial taxes while providing an additional boost to a nanotechnology school on the east side of Greensboro, a project that educators and economic developers say is critical to the city’s future.
Gov. Mike Easley and the House have already made their spending proposals. After the Senate finishes its work this week, the three will negotiate a final version that would take effect for the year beginning July 1.
The Senate version would borrow about $1.2 billion for various state projects, much of them for universities. That borrowing would be done without voter approval. (more…)
