Charlottean hopeful she can retain top post

Around 1,000 N.C. Republicans will elect a chairman and get a look at their 2008 candidates this weekend at the state party convention in Charlotte.
In the chairman’s race, incumbent Linda Daves of Charlotte will face Marcus Kindley, former head of the Guilford County GOP.
The gathering at the Charlotte Convention Center also will showcase many of the party’s candidates for governor and other offices. The convention starts Friday though most candidates will speak Saturday, hours before the election for chairman.
Daves, 61, was the GOP’s vice chair until last Election Day, when she took over after Ferrell Blount stepped down as chairman. She was elected in December to fill the remainder of his term. (more…)
