Perdue outlines health care plan

Raleigh | Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue will offer a health care plan during her gubernatorial campaign that would provide universal insurance for children, offer subsidized care for low-income parents and encourage small business coverage.
An estimated 1.4 million North Carolina residents are uninsured, including 250,000 children.
"My goal is clear. I am dedicated to turning North Carolina into the healthiest state in the nation," Perdue wrote in an overview of her plans sent this week to health care advocates. "Setting that lofty goal is an essential step to ultimately assuring that affordable and quality health care is available to all North Carolinians."
Perdue’s campaign released the six-page document Friday, three days before she kicks off her bid for the Democratic nomination at an event in her hometown of New Bern. Her expected Democratic opponent, Richard Moore, released a plan last week that would cover all uninsured children. (more…)
