Transportation needs could grow for N.C. residents in the future

RALEIGH — North Carolina could be facing a “perfect storm” in transportation in the coming decades, a state committee was told on Monday.
Population increases, the demands for highways to meet the needs of a growing economy and a flattening of the gasoline tax as a revenue source all contribute to a widening gap in transportation needs vs. resources, the 21st-Century Transportation Committee was told.
“Nobody’s got the perfect answer,” Barry Jenkins with NC Go! told the committee.
NC Go! is a coalition of organizations across the state promoting increases in funding for state transportation. The group’s membership includes chambers of commerce, transit agencies, county and municipal leaders, the N.C. Ports Authority, railways, AAA Carolinas, along with engineering companies and transportation construction firms. more…
