Jones County shoots down proposed anti-OLF resolution

Not every county in eastern North Carolina is settled on opposing a Navy pilot jet landing field in its neighborhood.
Jones County commissioners have decided, at least for now, to keep an open mind about the U.S. Navy’s plans to develop an outlying landing field in the region.
In a 3-2 vote, Jones commissioners recently shot down a proposed resolution opposing the OLF being built in the Hofmann Forest, which is on the border Jones shares with Onslow County.
The Hofmann Forest location is one of six alternate sites North Carolina officials submitted to Navy officials for study for the OLF.
Jones Commissioner Charles Battle, who put forwardthe anti-OLF resolution, said some might view the commission’s decision as a declaration that Jones County supports an OLF at the Hofmann Forest site. more…
