Crucial Conversation “Juveniles in Adult Prison: A Public Health Risk”

North Carolina is one of only two states where children as young as 16 are automatically tried as adults for any crime, regardless of the nature of the crime. Why has North Carolina been left behind? What would it take for the juvenile justice system to accommodate these older youth? Join us for a luncheon exploring the latest research into why sending youth to the adult criminal system does not “scare them straight.” Learn more about the public health risks of exposing youth to adult criminals, and whether there are programs that successfully guide them to a more productive path.
