Pittenger has most money on hand in NC lt. governor’s race

State Sen. Robert Pittenger, who formally entered the race for lieutenant governor just two weeks ago, has the most cash on hand among the announced candidates entering 2008, according to campaign finance reports.
Pittenger, a Charlotte Republican, told the State Board of Elections that he had nearly $1.03 million in his campaign coffers as of Dec. 31. He announced his bid for the state's No. 2 executive position Jan. 14.
All candidates for legislative, judicial and statewide elected office had to file or postmark their campaign reports to the elections board by late Friday.
Pittenger, a prolific fundraiser for Senate Republicans and conservative causes, said he raised $1.15 million during the second half of 2007, the period that the most recent reports cover. (more…)
