Lexington CDC receives $75,000 grant

Money will be used to make home repairs for approximately 25 of the city’s elderly or handicapped residents
 

 

 

Lexington’s Lula Pittman stood on her back deck Monday morning with a slew of local and state officials — a simple act that was too dangerous for her alone only a few months ago.

But after the Lexington Community Development Corp. used grant money from the N.C. Housing Finance Agency’s Urgent Repair Program to build her a new deck in the fall of 2007 to replace the unsafe one that was ready to fall down, she can entertain on her back deck once again.

However, the local and state dignitaries were at the senior citizen’s home on Miller Street for more than a social call. They were there to witness N.C. Rep. Hugh Holliman, D-Davidson, present a $75,000 grant to the Lexington CDC to enable the agency to repair approximately 25 homes in Davidson County in the near future. (more…)
