Each party's hopefuls hold separate sessions in Greenville event

GREENVILLE, N.C. –
GREENVILLE, N.C. — Treasurer Richard Moore finally got the televised debate he asked for in the Democratic primary for governor — except that his main rival still declined to attend.
The debate went on without Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue on Thursday night in Greenville. Hosted by television station WITN and East Carolina University, the debate was broadcast through much of the eastern part of the state and included back-and-forth between Moore and lesser-known Democrat Dennis Nielsen.
Moore has made the lack of televised debates an issue in the primary, in which he and Perdue are considered heavyweights. Perdue's campaign points to five events they have agreed to participate in, though none have been broadcast live on major broadcast television. (more…)
