Suggesting a painless path to voter-owned elections

The rising cost of running for office is a troubling trend in state and national races as well as local government. Not only is it hard for nonwealthy people to run for office, but large donors have an undue influence on lawmaking.
There’s something simple we can all do to counteract this trend. When you file your state income taxes, check “yes” for the N.C. Public Campaign Fund. This does not change your tax or refund. It sends $3 of the taxes you are already paying to support a public fund for judicial elections. (more…)
