POSTPONED
We have decided to reschedule this Crucial Conversation Luncheon to a later date.
People of Color: Justice and Unity Legislative Day events overlap with our luncheon. In the spirit of cooperation and unity, we have decide to postpone our event. We will inform you when a new date has been determine.
Can the average citizen afford to run for local office? It's getting more difficult in North Carolina's major cities. As the cost to compete for City Council and mayoral races increasingly exceeds six figures, fewer people are willing or able to run for office and wealthy special interest money is dominating more campaigns. Come hear municipal elected officials discuss first-hand the growing problem of big money politics at the local level. See the data as Common Cause North Carolina releases its statewide study on the issue. Also find out what North Carolina can do to make local politics affordable, as Chapel Hill becomes the state's first municipality with legal authority to experiment with public financing.
NC Policy Watch and Common Cause North Carolina invite you to this Crucial Conversation luncheon "Big Money in Local Politics" with guest panelists:
- Mark Kleinschmidt, Chapel Hill Town Council
- Russ Stephenson, Raleigh City Council
- Diane Tworog, Associate Director Common Cause North Carolina
- Rep. Pricey Harrison of Guilford County
Please note: The North Carolina NAACP and its partners from the “HK on J” Coalition will also be sponsoring “People of Color Justice and Unity Legislative Day” in Raleigh on May 28. Happily, the two events should not conflict as the “Big Money in Local Politics” Crucial Conversation will overlap with the mid-day lunch break for those attending the lobby day. We hope that activists will make time in their schedule to attend both events.
