Washington knows how to put on a hard-core press, but it's not always slick-suited lobbyists applying pressure.
Sometimes it's longtime friends.
When the White House and congressional leadership were looking for votes for the controversial financial services bill, it wasn't President Bush who was dispatched to call Rep. Sue Myrick, a Charlotte Republican who initially voted against it. It was Dan Quayle and Jack Kemp. (more…)
