It may be time to rethink the duties of the state Labor Commissioner

North Carolina state government has dozens of agencies with a wide variety of missions. The Department of Public Instruction is supposed to oversee the education of our children; The Department of Correction is charged with housing and maybe even rehabilitating those who commit crimes; The Department of Environment and Natural Resources acts as a steward for our state’s natural environment.

The wrong kind of reforms

Changing the way the General Assembly operates and how legislators are elected always seem to be on the minds on some members of the House and Senate.

The worsening national health care crisis has mostly slipped from the headlines lately in the rush to pass a federal stimulus package. Congress is talking about expanding children’s health care and there has been some discussion of the Medicaid funding for the states in the stimulus plan, but that’s about it.
