"Why is American so Divided?" conversation with Coffee Party founder and filmmaker Annabel Park

Annabel Park and Eric Byler are filmmakers known for innovative ways in which they have combined emerging social media tools with grassroots organizing. They are founders of Coffee Party USA (http://www.coffeepartyusa.com/), a grassroots democracy movement which emerged in the early 2010 as a fact-based, civil alternative to the Tea Party with over 500,000 people in their network. They also co-directed the critically acclaimed documentary feature film about America’s culture war over immigration policy, 9500 Liberty (http://www.9500liberty.com/).

Their new documentary web series (soon to be developed into a feature film), Story of America: A Nation Divided (http://www.storyofamerica.org/), examines the ways in which America has become divided as a country, investigates the causes and invites the audience to share their stories about America and engage in a dialogue about how we can become more united.

According to Park and Byler, America’s growing national divide jeopardizes the country’s future. The polarization is making Washington dysfunctional and our lives more difficult because our government is paralyzed by gridlock. In their work, they ask: How do we break this gridlock and become more united as a country?
